What's the difference between weird and eccentric?
I think money is. A rich person is called eccentric if they're not "normal" but an average joe is just weird if they're not "normal"

- I think each means the same thing but has a different connotation. Weird is negative Eccentric is postive
- I don't think it had to do with money. Eccentric = odd; different Weird = an apparent mental confusion They both have the same meaning, pretty much, except one seems to be more positive and accepting..
- To me someone is weird if I don't care for them and eccentric if I do.
- I think they both mean the same, except people use ''eccentric'' when they want to appear polite.
- To my way of thinking eccentric has some age connotation to it as well as level of "oddness" An elder with some odd characteristics might be considered eccentric. While a younger person with odd characteristics might be considered weird.
- The perspective of the labeler.
- I think of myself as eccentric. I wouldn't want to be thought of as weird. I am just average but I spend money on things others would not, so it is eccentric (doesn't have to be "rich", it could just be all the money a person has versus expensive). I like things when others wouldn't, I repeat viewing favourite movies I love 10 and 20 times over.....but others would not. That is what eccentric is, your behaviour and it comes down to perspective. Weird are those nutty types that serve guests left overs for dinner (yuck), that look at you from their window and but do not wave, weird are those types that just give you the creeps. Weird comes down to perspective too, not everyone agrees on the definition.
